Zsh in Breadstick

Breadstick note

Type zsh in a Breadstick Terminal tab to start it there. The key bar above the on-screen keyboard has Tab, the arrow keys and Ctrl, which Zsh's completion and history use; with a physical keyboard, the keys reach it as they do on a PC.

Breadstick runs Debian's own zsh package for ARM64, the build a Debian 13 computer with an ARM processor installs, so Zsh should behave as it does on a Linux PC. It is a command line program rather than an app with a window of its own: you run it by typing its command in Breadstick's Terminal, or in any terminal window on the Linux desktop, and it needs no Desktop or Floating session running.

Commands in the package

  • zsh
  • rzsh
  • zsh5

Type one in Breadstick's Terminal to run it.

A shell runs inside Breadstick's Terminal, or in any terminal window on the Linux desktop: type its name there to start it, as on any Linux system. More in the docs: The Terminal.

About Zsh

From Debian's package description

Zsh is a UNIX command interpreter (shell) usable as an interactive login shell and as a shell script command processor. Of the standard shells, zsh most closely resembles ksh but includes many enhancements. Zsh has command-line editing, built-in spelling correction, programmable command completion, shell functions (with autoloading), a history mechanism, and a host of other features.
