Limits in Breadstick
sshd cannot listen on port 22, which Android does not give apps, so it needs a port above 1024 in its config, such as the 2222 Breadstick's own SSH server uses.
OpenSSH server in Breadstick
Breadstick note
Breadstick's SSH server, turned on in Settings under Remote access, is this package's sshd, set up and started for you on port 2222, so you usually do not set it up by hand.
Breadstick runs Debian's own openssh-server package for ARM64, the build a Debian 13 computer with an ARM processor installs, so OpenSSH server should behave as it does on a Linux PC. It is a command line program rather than an app with a window of its own: you run it by typing its command in Breadstick's Terminal, or in any terminal window on the Linux desktop, and it needs no Desktop or Floating session running.
Commands in the package
sshd
There is no systemd in Breadstick, so a server does not start on its own: you start it by hand from the Terminal. Android does not give apps the network ports below 1024, so a web or file server listens on a higher port, and other devices on your network can reach it at the device's address when it listens on all addresses and Breadstick is running. More in the docs: What Breadstick cannot do: the system itself.
About OpenSSH server
From Debian's package description
This is the portable version of OpenSSH, a free implementation of the Secure Shell protocol as specified by the IETF secsh working group.
Ssh (Secure Shell) is a program for logging into a remote machine and for executing commands on a remote machine. It provides secure encrypted communications between two untrusted hosts over an insecure network. X11 connections and arbitrary TCP/IP ports can also be forwarded over the secure channel. It can be used to provide applications with a secure communication channel.
This package provides the sshd server.
In some countries it may be illegal to use any encryption at all without a special permit.
sshd replaces the insecure rshd program, which is obsolete for most purposes.
