shellcheck in Breadstick

Breadstick runs Debian's own shellcheck package for ARM64, the build a Debian 13 computer with an ARM processor installs, so shellcheck should behave as it does on a Linux PC. It is a command line program rather than an app with a window of its own: you run it by typing its command in Breadstick's Terminal, or in any terminal window on the Linux desktop, and it needs no Desktop or Floating session running.

Commands in the package

  • shellcheck

Type it in Breadstick's Terminal to start the program.

Linters, formatters and language servers run on the device's own processor, and editors on the Linux desktop or in the Terminal can call them as they would on a Linux PC. More in the docs: The Terminal.

About shellcheck

From Debian's package description

The goals of ShellCheck are:

  • To point out and clarify typical beginner's syntax issues, that causes a shell to give cryptic error messages.
  • To point out and clarify typical intermediate level semantic problems, that causes a shell to behave strangely and counter-intuitively.
  • To point out subtle caveats, corner cases and pitfalls, that may cause an advanced user's otherwise working script to fail under future circumstances.

From Debian's description of the shellcheck package, under that package's license.
