iproute2

networking and traffic control tools

TestedCommand lineInternetNetwork and remote access

Tested: works, with limits

Read-only: ip addr and ip link work, and ip route show table all lists routes (plain ip route shows only the local network). ss, ip route get and ip neigh do not work, and changes report success but do nothing.

iproute2 in Breadstick

Breadstick runs Debian's own iproute2 package for ARM64, the build a Debian 13 computer with an ARM processor installs, and a test on a device found the limits above. It is a command line program rather than an app with a window of its own: you run it by typing its command in Breadstick's Terminal, or in any terminal window on the Linux desktop, and it needs no Desktop or Floating session running.

Commands in the package

  • ip
  • arpd
  • bridge
  • ctstat
  • dcb
  • devlink
  • genl
  • lnstat
  • nstat
  • rdma
  • routel
  • rtacct
  • rtmon
  • rtstat
  • ss
  • tc
  • tipc
  • vdpa

Type one in Breadstick's Terminal to run it.

Network tools use Android's own connection, and a VPN connected in Android covers them too. Anything that needs root, such as capturing traffic or changing the device's network settings, is not available. More in the docs: What Breadstick cannot do: raw network control.

About iproute2

From Debian's package description

The iproute2 suite is a collection of utilities for networking and traffic control.

These tools communicate with the Linux kernel via the (rt)netlink interface, providing advanced features not available through the legacy net-tools commands 'ifconfig' and 'route'.

From Debian's description of the iproute2 package, under that package's license.
