You start the server by hand from the Terminal (mariadbd) with a data directory you can write to; its default port 3306 works.

MariaDB Server in Breadstick

Breadstick runs Debian's own mariadb-server package for ARM64, the build a Debian 13 computer with an ARM processor installs, and a test on a device, above, saw it run. It is a command line program rather than an app with a window of its own: you run it by typing its command in Breadstick's Terminal, or in any terminal window on the Linux desktop, and it needs no Desktop or Floating session running.

Commands it gives you

  • mariadbd
  • mariadb-install-db
  • mariadbd-safe
  • aria_chk
  • aria_dump_log
  • aria_ftdump
  • aria_pack
  • aria_read_log
  • galera_new_cluster
  • galera_recovery
  • mariadb-service-convert
  • mariadbd-multi
  • mariadbd-safe-helper
  • myisam_ftdump
  • myisamchk
  • myisamlog
  • myisampack
  • mysqld_safe
  • wsrep_sst_backup
  • wsrep_sst_common
  • wsrep_sst_mariabackup
  • wsrep_sst_mysqldump
  • wsrep_sst_rsync
  • wsrep_sst_rsync_wan

There is no systemd in Breadstick, so a database server does not start on its own: you start it by hand from the Terminal, and keep its data in your Linux home folder. Command line clients reach servers on the device or across the network. More in the docs: What Breadstick cannot do: the system itself.
