netcat (OpenBSD) in Breadstick

Breadstick runs Debian's own netcat-openbsd package for ARM64, the build a Debian 13 computer with an ARM processor installs, so netcat (OpenBSD) should behave as it does on a Linux PC. It is a command line program rather than an app with a window of its own: you run it by typing its command in Breadstick's Terminal, or in any terminal window on the Linux desktop, and it needs no Desktop or Floating session running.

Commands it gives you

  • nc
  • nc.openbsd

Type one in Breadstick's Terminal to run it.

Network tools use Android's own connection, and a VPN connected in Android covers them too. Anything that needs root, such as capturing traffic or changing the device's network settings, is not available. More in the docs: What Breadstick cannot do: raw network control.

About netcat (OpenBSD)

From Debian's package description

A simple Unix utility which reads and writes data across network connections using TCP or UDP protocol. It is designed to be a reliable "back-end" tool that can be used directly or easily driven by other programs and scripts. At the same time it is a feature-rich network debugging and exploration tool, since it can create almost any kind of connection you would need and has several interesting built-in capabilities.

This package contains the OpenBSD rewrite of netcat, including support for IPv6, proxies, and Unix sockets.
