ninja-build in Breadstick

Breadstick runs Debian's own ninja-build package for ARM64, the build a Debian 13 computer with an ARM processor installs, so ninja-build should behave as it does on a Linux PC. It is a command line program rather than an app with a window of its own: you run it by typing its command in Breadstick's Terminal, or in any terminal window on the Linux desktop, and it needs no Desktop or Floating session running.

Commands in the package

  • ninja

Type it in Breadstick's Terminal to start the program.

Compilers and build tools make ARM64 Linux programs on the device itself, with Debian's own toolchain. A big build uses the device's processor and memory, so it takes longer than on a desktop PC, and each parallel job is another process, which counts against the limit Android puts on apps. More in the docs: Troubleshooting: the desktop closes on its own.

About ninja-build

From Debian's package description

Ninja is yet another build system. It takes as input the interdependencies of files (typically source code and output executables) and orchestrates building them, quickly.

Ninja joins a sea of other build systems. Its distinguishing goal is to be fast. It is born from the Chromium browser project, which has over 30,000 source files and whose other build systems can take ten seconds to start building after changing one file. Ninja is under a second.

From Debian's description of the ninja-build package, under that package's license.
