OpenJDK in Breadstick

Breadstick note

default-jdk brings in Debian 13's OpenJDK 21 for ARM64, which gives you java, javac and jshell. A Java program with a window, started from a Terminal tab, opens in a running Desktop or Floating session, and a command line one needs no session.

Breadstick runs Debian's own default-jdk package for ARM64, the build a Debian 13 computer with an ARM processor installs, so OpenJDK should behave as it does on a Linux PC. The package itself has no program of its own: the commands below come from the packages it brings in, and you run them by typing them in Breadstick's Terminal, or in any terminal window on the Linux desktop, with no Desktop or Floating session needed.

Commands it gives you

  • java
  • javac
  • jshell

Type one in Breadstick's Terminal to run it.

Interpreters and runtimes run on the device's own ARM64 processor, from Debian's own packages. Keep projects in your Linux home folder, which is much faster than Android's shared folders for trees of many small files. Libraries with compiled parts need an ARM64 Linux build, or the tools to build one on the device. More in the docs: The Terminal.
