Vim in Breadstick
Breadstick note
Vim runs in Breadstick's Terminal, and Esc, which Vim needs all the time, is on the key bar above the on-screen keyboard; with a physical keyboard, Escape reaches Vim as on a PC. GVim, the version with a window of its own, has its own page in this catalog.
Breadstick runs Debian's own vim package for ARM64, the build a Debian 13 computer with an ARM processor installs, so Vim should look and behave as it does on a Linux PC. It is an interactive program that runs inside a terminal rather than in a window of its own: in Breadstick's Terminal, or in any terminal window on the Linux desktop, and it needs no Desktop or Floating session running.
Commands it gives you
vimvivimdiffvim.basic
Type one in Breadstick's Terminal to run it.
Terminal text editors run in Breadstick's Terminal. With a physical keyboard, keys such as Escape reach them as they do on a PC. More in the docs: The Terminal.
About Vim
From Debian's package description
Vim is an almost compatible version of the UNIX editor Vi.
Many new features have been added: multi level undo, syntax highlighting, command line history, on-line help, filename completion, block operations, folding, Unicode support, etc.
This package contains a version of vim compiled with a rather standard set of features. This package does not provide a GUI version of Vim. See the other vim-* packages if you need more (or less).
From Debian's description of the vim package, under that package's license.
