whois in Breadstick

Breadstick runs Debian's own whois package for ARM64, the build a Debian 13 computer with an ARM processor installs, so whois should behave as it does on a Linux PC. It is a command line program rather than an app with a window of its own: you run it by typing its command in Breadstick's Terminal, or in any terminal window on the Linux desktop, and it needs no Desktop or Floating session running.

Commands in the package

  • whois
  • mkpasswd

Type one in Breadstick's Terminal to run it.

Network tools use Android's own connection, and a VPN connected in Android covers them too. Anything that needs root, such as capturing traffic or changing the device's network settings, is not available. More in the docs: What Breadstick cannot do: raw network control.

About whois

From Debian's package description

This package provides a commandline client for the WHOIS (RFC 3912) protocol, which queries online servers for information such as contact details for domains and IP address assignments. It can intelligently select the appropriate WHOIS server for most queries.

The package also contains mkpasswd, a features-rich front end to the password encryption function crypt(3).
