Settings

Where everything is in Breadstick's Settings, and Breadstick Settings inside Linux, which has the same pages.

Breadstick has four places, always in the same spot: Home, Apps, Terminal and Settings. They are along the bottom on a phone and down the side on a tablet, a Googlebook or a DeX screen. These pages write a setting as its path, such as Settings > Display > App scale.

Settings has a search box that looks through every page. On a wide screen the pages are a list down the side; on a phone each opens on its own.

The pages

Page What is on it
Display Desktop theme, App scale, Apps with their own scale, Desktop style, Desks in Desktop mode
Input Touchpad mode, Mouse buttons on screen, Stylus as a pen, Game controllers, On-screen game controls, Auto-hide keyboard button, the two scrolling switches, and the Keyboard settings
Device access Microphone, Camera, Calendar, Phone notifications, Printing, Clipboard, and Keep Linux running with the screen off
Terminal Enhanced Terminal, Reattach to your terminal session, and the Terminal's colors and font
Linux system System updates, App language, Linux language, Linux formats, Linux services, Storage, and Delete Linux system
Resources What Linux is using right now, and the Resource monitor
Graphics GPU acceleration, its test, and Apps that draw in software
Network and remote access DNS servers for Linux, the SSH server and its keys, Screen sharing (VNC)
Backups Back up Linux, Restore, Snapshots, Automatic backups, Linux systems
Other apps Let other apps use Linux, and which apps have asked
Pro Your edition, what Pro adds, Restore purchase
About Version, Documentation, Privacy policy, Terms of service, Share diagnostics
Advanced MCP server, Troubleshooting, and Developer mode once it is on
Documentation These pages and the license, readable offline (in the app only; press F1 from anywhere)

Destructive actions are last on their page, in red, and ask first: Delete Linux system at the bottom of Linux system, Force-stop Linux session at the bottom of Troubleshooting.

Settings for something only some devices have appear only there. Meta key in Linux shows on Samsung devices that allow it, and Engine, under Advanced, only where the device can run Linux in a virtual machine.

Most changes apply at once, while Linux runs. Turn on dark mode, a controller, the camera or GPU acceleration, or buy Pro, and nothing needs to restart.

Breadstick Settings inside Linux

Breadstick Settings is a Linux program with the same pages, in the same order, with the same names. It talks to the app, so you can change Breadstick without leaving the Linux desktop. Open it from:

  • the Basic Desktop's menu, or a right-click on one of the status icons on the shelf
  • the launcher or quick settings on the Enhanced Desktop
  • the Apps drawer in Floating mode, where it opens as its own window like any Linux app

It is free. Pro settings are shown dimmed, with Get Pro, which opens the Pro screen in Breadstick.

A few things are left out of it, because they would replace or remove the very system it runs in, or because they only change Breadstick's own screens: Desktop style, the Enhanced Terminal switch, Reattach to your terminal session, restoring a backup or a snapshot, Linux systems, Delete Linux system and the Engine. All settings in Breadstick, at the end of About, opens the app for those.

Some changes widen what can reach your device or Linux: turning on the SSH server, screen sharing, the MCP server or its network access, other apps' access, custom DNS servers, the microphone, camera, calendar, notifications or clipboard, Linux services, and turning off encryption for automatic backups. Made from Linux, each of these asks you on Android first, over the desktop. Any program in Linux can talk to Breadstick Settings, so that question is what keeps one from turning these on by itself. Passwords and keys are always typed on Android, never in Linux.
