PHP in Breadstick

Breadstick note

php-cli brings in Debian 13's PHP 8.4 command line interpreter. PHP's built-in web server needs a port above 1024, because Android does not give apps the lower ones, and there is no systemd here to start PHP-FPM for you.

Breadstick runs Debian's own php-cli package for ARM64, the build a Debian 13 computer with an ARM processor installs, so PHP should behave as it does on a Linux PC. The package itself has no program of its own: the commands below come from the packages it brings in, and you run them by typing them in Breadstick's Terminal, or in any terminal window on the Linux desktop, with no Desktop or Floating session needed.

Commands it gives you

  • php

Type it in Breadstick's Terminal to start the program.

Interpreters and runtimes run on the device's own ARM64 processor, from Debian's own packages. Keep projects in your Linux home folder, which is much faster than Android's shared folders for trees of many small files. Libraries with compiled parts need an ARM64 Linux build, or the tools to build one on the device. More in the docs: The Terminal.

About PHP

From Debian's package description

This package provides the /usr/bin/php command interpreter, useful for testing PHP scripts from a shell or performing general shell scripting tasks.

PHP (recursive acronym for PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor) is a widely-used open source general-purpose scripting language that is especially suited for web development and can be embedded into HTML.

This package is a dependency package, which depends on latest stable PHP version (currently 8.4).
