Not tested on a device yet. What that means

cargo in Breadstick

Breadstick runs Debian's own cargo package for ARM64, the build a Debian 13 computer with an ARM processor installs, so cargo should behave as it does on a Linux PC. It is a command line program rather than an app with a window of its own: you run it by typing its command in Breadstick's Terminal, or in any terminal window on the Linux desktop, and it needs no Desktop or Floating session running.

Commands in the package

  • cargo

Type it in Breadstick's Terminal to start the program.

Interpreters and runtimes run on the device's own ARM64 processor, from Debian's own packages. Keep projects in your Linux home folder, which is much faster than Android's shared folders for trees of many small files. Libraries with compiled parts need an ARM64 Linux build, or the tools to build one on the device. More in the docs: The Terminal.

About cargo

From Debian's package description

Cargo is a tool that allows Rust projects to declare their various dependencies, and ensure that you'll always get a repeatable build.

To accomplish this goal, Cargo does four things:

  • Introduces two metadata files with various bits of project information.
  • Fetches and builds your project's dependencies.
  • Invokes rustc or another build tool with the correct parameters to build your project.
  • Introduces conventions, making working with Rust projects easier.

Cargo downloads your Rust project's dependencies and compiles your project.
